Vascular Shunt Placement for Trauma: Indications, Strategies and Outcomes2023
Type: New Practice Management Guideline (PMG)
Category: Trauma
Committee Liaison: Rachel D. Appelbaum, MD
Team leader(s)
Statement:
There is little guidance in the literature regarding the approach to the acute management of an injured blood vessel, particularly in scenarios where a vascular shunt may be used. This pertains to indications for vascular shunt placement, timing, order of surgeries when multiple procedures are needed, anticoagulation use and duration of shunt. This guideline would perform a comprehensive literature review to develop a PMG to help guide clinicians in decision-making with regards to when and how to use shunts in their care of vascular trauma.
