Prevention of Firework-related Injuries2023

Type: New Practice Management Guideline (PMG)
Category: Injury Prevention
Committee Liaison: Amanda Teichman, MD, FACS

Team leader(s)

Statement:
Firework-related injuries are common in the United States, with rise in their incidence over the past decade. They lead to significant morbidity, including burns, vision loss, limb amputation, and work loss. Many patients are children and bystanders. Data suggests that professional displays and more stringent legislation can reduce the incidence and/or severity of these injuries. Particularly because of the recent rise in the United States, a PMG to prevent these morbid firework-related injuries is needed.
