Legislative Efforts to Reduce Firearm Injury2024
Type: Update Evidence Based Review (EBR)
Category: Injury Prevention
Committee Liaison: Amanda Teichman, MD, FACS
Team leader(s)
Statement of Need:
In 2023, 42,000 people died of firearm injuries in the US. Despite our best efforts at prehospital interventions such as tourniquets and TXA, excellent surgical care, and seasoned trauma systems, the numbers continue to rise. As experts in the field, we need to continually reevaluate the data and make recommendations for best practices.

- restrictive licensing--criminal background checks
- restrictive licensing--intimate partner violence history
- concealed carry laws
